Fourth Annual Museum Day Features Free General Admission on September 27, 2008
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (September 23, 2008) On Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, Reynolda House Museum of American Art will participate in the fourth annual Museum Day, presented by Smithsonian Magazine. Admission to Reynolda House is free this day for visitors who present the Museum Day Admission Card.
Museum Day is a day when museums and cultural institutions nationwide open their doors free of charge to Smithsonian magazine readers and Smithsonian.com visitors. A celebration of culture, learning, and the dissemination of knowledge, Smithsonian's Museum Day reflects the spirit of the magazine, and emulates the free-admission policy of the Smithsonian Institution's Washington, DC-based properties.
Last year nearly 100,000 people attended Museum Day. All 50 states plus Puerto Rico were represented by 651 participating museums. Reynolda House is one of five museums in the Piedmont Triad participating in Museum Day this year.
Two exhibitions are currently on display at Reynolda House, "Early American Portraits" and "A Country Takes Shape." On Friday, October 3, Reynolda House unveils its fall exhibition, "Seeing the City: Sloan's New York" with an opening party scheduled to start at 7 p.m. Reynolda House is the only venue in the South to host this exhibition, which will be on view through January 4, 2009.
Attendees must present Smithsonian magazine's Museum Day Admission Card to gain free entry at participating institutions. The Museum Day Admission Card is available in the September 2008 issue of Smithsonian magazine, and a downloadable version is available on the Museum Day website at smithsonianmag.com/museumday.
